Geunjeongjeon is the best royal palace in Gyeongbokgung Palace and it holds the meaning of ‘Governing a country with sincere diligence on all affairs’. Geunjeongjeon is the most magnificent building in the palace and it represents the royal authority. National events such as coronation ceremony, morning meeting with civil and military officials, and reception for foreign envoy were held in Geunjeongjeon. It is also designated as the National Treasure No.223.
Gyeonghoeru is an official banquet hall where the king and officials held big banquets or entertained foreign envoys. In the past, people used to enjoy boating in a pond and appreciated the magnificent scenery of Inwangsan Mountain and palace. It is said that Gyeonghoeru was built based on the principles from Book of Changes. Also, the 3 rooms in the center refers to heaven, earth and man, 12 rooms refers to 12 months, and 24 pillars outside refers to 24 solar terms. Gyeonghoeru is designated as the National Treasure No.224.
Hyangwonjeong is a place where the king or royal family took a break and Hyangwon means Scent spreading far. Hyangwonjeong is a symbolic and representative building in the beautiful scenery of Gyeongbukgung Palace’s backyard. It is regarded as a delicate and beautiful hexagon-shape pavilion with excellent proportion and it is designated as National Treasure No.1761.
