Dongdaemun Shopping Complex and Shopping Town

See & Do Shopping

About

Opened in 1970, Dongdaemun Shopping Complex is the largest single market in Asia as well as one of the oldest with over 40 years of history. In 1985 Dongdaemun Shopping Town was added to the complex bringing the total to four buildings altogether (A, B, C and Shopping Town). This traditional market houses many wholesale and retail stores specializing in various fabrics, materials, accessories, and wedding products. As much as eighty percent of all the fabric traded in Korea goes through here, allowing for goods to be sold at reasonable prices. Dongdaemun Shopping Complex first opened with over 5,000 shops crammed into three separate buildings. Recently the market was extensively refurbished and extended to include outlets selling quilts, corsages and handmade toys.

  • So so!
This area I found hard to find my way around for some reason - lots of shops but nothing I found very exciting. Part of the Old City wall is here a d that was worth seeing.
