About

Hongdae (Hongik University) Free Market is a marketplace for young artists. The market is run in a flea market format, but while a typical flea market sells second-hand goods, the Free Market sells only genuinely creative artwork. Since 2002, the market has been held every Saturday and has since become the prime cultural hotspot on Hongdae street, and a venue for performances by indie bands and different cultural events.

The Free Market also introduces organizations who work for public good, hosts tours and workshops, and hosts the Afternoon Stage for local artists and musicians to perform at.

I came to the location after 1 PM that’s when the information said that it “opened” - but found ... a regular street of shops and stalls, and a few “buskers,” but certainly nothing that wasn’t open...
