The Prelude to Spring The Cold Envies the Flowers
In this in-between season of March, weather trends in Korea indicate that there is a period of warmth (giving the llusion of spring) followed by a short wave of cold. Seoul faces one last attack of winter before spring finally arrives in what Koreans call “kkot saem chu wee”. It means that “the cold envies the flowers” and that it is not spring yet. So don't be fooled by the sunshine and don't forget to pack some sweaters and scarves for your vacation if you're planning to visit Seoul this time around.
Warm Your Body Seoul Yangnyeong Market With the cold coming and going, March can be a good time to keep tabs on your health. One place to do that and get a taste of Korean culture at the same time is Seoul Yangnyeong Market. Established in the late 1960s, Seoul Yangnyeong Market is one of the most famous oriental medicine markets in Korea. Today, the market has grown to become the nation's largest oriental medicine market, and 70 percent of the oriental medicine traded in Korea goes through here. Because the market is able to minimize distribution costs, the medicinal herbs sold here cost around 30 percent cheaper than elsewhere. As traditional Korean medicine gains popularity, more and more tourists from China or Japan come to Korea
The Beautiful Tea Museum If you're feeling a little chilly because of the last sting of cold, you can enjoy a soothing cup of tea with green tea rice cakes - the most popular rice cakes on the menu - in an elegant hanok (traditional Korean house). The museum also exhibits various implements traditionally used to make tea

For those of you that just can't wait for the flowers to bloom, you can get an early taste of spring by trying out some spring foods. One such meal is a spring-green bibimbap. Similar to a regular bibimbap in terms of taste and texture, the spring bibimbap offers you more nutrients and an extra crunch to every bite.
Marche, A Market Full of Greens
If you're looking to shop for greens straight to your hotel or hostel, or if you just want to explore spring cuisines of Korea, you can find the outdoor market called Marche. Named after the French word for "market", Marche features professionals and artisans from three categories (agriculture, cooking and handicrafts) to put a face to the food on our tables. Here, you can pick up some freshly harvested fruits and vegetables or artisanal jams, teas and snacks while you're there, you can also talk to food experts about the greens there. Not only will you learn a little bit about the foods you're eating but you might even be able to pick up a few food preparation tips from seasoned professionals.
Flowers are a cheery greeting, not only because they signify the weather becoming warmer but because they signify a greener season overall. There's nowhere better that reminds you of that than the Nonghyup Agricultural Museum. At this museum, you can learn all about the history of several goods that are produced within the country and experience some of the green agriculture for yourself. Attached to the Agricultural Museum is the Rice Museum where you can see the different kinds of rice tha are available in the country. You can sample and taste some of the rice here too!
