About
  • THE CHAE: Courtyard is an individual hanok (traditional Korean house) accommodation with the charm of a waterwheel turning in the yard. A long-unattended hanok has been transformed into a comfortable space to enjoy a slow, analog life and the hanok’s charm. The word “courtyard” has been added to the house’s name to emphasize the fact that there is a waterwheel in the yard so that guests may appreciate the aesthetics of pause, rest, and slowness by looking at the slowly turning waterwheel.
Details
  • In addition to the large yard and wooden floor, the house comes with four rooms, three bathrooms, and a space outside for foot bathing. There is a waterwheel in the yard that guests may admire from anywhere inside. [Foot bathtub] The foot bathing room outdoors has a large window through which one can see the waterwheel; the room comes with a large, sturdy table and chair designed with hanok-like colors and lines. [Welcome tea] A horsetail sieve made using the traditional method is used to create traditional Magpie and Tiger mugwort tea, which you can enjoy while looking out at the beautiful yard. [Beam projector] Once the sun sets, the waterwheel and moonlight create a romantic mood that you can appreciate from the large wooden floor. You can also enjoy watching a movie using the beam projector, with the hanok’s charm as a backdrop.
