The bridge between Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, and 27 Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, was named Jamsildaegyo Bridge because of its connection to Jamsil-dong. Construction began in October 1970, and the sixth bridge in Seoul was built on the Hangang River in July 1972. It was a six-lane bridge at first, with a width of 25m, and in 2003, it expanded and re-opened as an eight-lane bridge. An underwater weir was installed on the Jamsildaegyo Bridge to maintain the water of the Hangang River at a constant level. It solved problems such as changes in the ecosystem caused by the reflux of seawater and aesthetic issues caused by exposure to river structures.
