The Sewoon Shopping Center was founded in 1968 as Korea's first electronics market under the mission of creating a thriving business community complex and has been around for over 40 years. The center reached its height during the 1970s & 80s as Korea's "go-to" electronics market but has also experienced a few low points along the way. However, in 2017, the Dasi Sewoon Project advocated for the second rise of the market as a "Maker City" that embraces both the creative manufacturing and creative printing industries. The market offers not only a wide selection of electronics and electrical products such as appliances, parts, audio devices, security cameras, arcade games, karaoke equipment and lighting equipment, but it is also home to a variety of other sites and attractions, such as the Sewoon Rooftop where Seoul's past and present converge into a single panoramic view, the sky-deck walkway, which is open to the public and crosses the Cheonggyecheon Stream, Sewoon Hall, a culture complex celebrating Joseon Dynasty cultural values, and the Cheonggye Sanghoe, a market filled with items specific to different regions and communities throughout the country.
