Located in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, Heungcheonsa is the very first prayer temple of the Joseon royal family. Founded in 1397 (the 6th year of King Taejo) as a prayer temple for Queen Sindeok of the Kang clan, it is also the prayer temple of Jeongneung, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. Heungcheonsa preserves a total of 21 cultural heritages, including 3 National Designated Cultural Heritages (Treasures). With magnificent cultural assets such as the Geuknakbojeon Hall, Myeongbujeon Hall, and Daebang, along with its serene and beautiful temple scenery, it draws many citizens and tourists from both home and abroad.
