At the time, Gakhwangsa was the first temple to be situated within the four main gates of Seoul. In 1937, efforts began to relocate Gakhwangsa to its present site, now known as Jogyesa. Positioned in the heart of Jongno, Seoul, it is the only traditional temple in the city center, offering a place for visitors to rest. The temple grounds are open 24/7, welcoming locals and foreigners anytime. The temple hosts a temple stay program and the annual Lotus Lantern Festival.
