About Seoul B-Boy Festival
The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, which has supported breakdance culture through performances, education, and work production by running the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Representative B-Boy Group for the past ten years, has held the Seoul B-boy Festival since 2022 to deliver the unique freedom and powerful energy of street culture to people.
This festival, which marks its second anniversary this year, is the representative summer festival of the Seoul Cultural Foundation's four-season brand, Art Festival_Seoul. It is designed so that anyone can experience the vibrant breaking culture in the early summer by the Hangang River.
Introducing Seoul’s representative B-Boy Group
The Seoul’s Representative B-Boy Group is a project initiated by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture in 2013 to promote the breakdance culture and encourage healthy leisure activities for citizens. The project selects a representative B-Boy team for Seoul City, which actively performs various shows on domestic and international stages.
01 Production
The Seoul Representative B-Boy Group, in collaboration with artists from various genres, has the opportunity to create new works based on creative workshops. From 2015 to 2023, the team produced six bodies of work, establishing a foundation for breakdancing to be recognized as an art genre. The team is preparing for their latest production's premiere, scheduled for June 30th this year.
02 Performance Activities
The Seoul Representative B-Boy Group showcases their domestic and international breakdancing performances at prestigious festivals and events, engaging with diverse audiences. They serve as cultural ambassadors, traveling to cities worldwide such as Paris, Sydney, Beijing, San Francisco, and Angola, acting as mediums for cultural exchange.
03 Training/Workshop
The program is designed to combine play and breakdancing artistically and educationally, aiming to enhance the creativity of children and teenagers. Through this program, participants can experience an art-based play education that integrates breakdancing, fostering their imaginative thinking. Additionally, workshops are conducted to share methods and insights for breakdancers who are interested in exploring career opportunities as educational instructors. Moreover, the team operates breakdancing workshops for professional artists, promoting collaboration and synergy among various artistic genres.
