'Gandeung' during the Unified Silla dynasty, 'Yeon Deung Hoe' during the Goryeo dynasty, 'Gwandeungnori' during the Joseon dynasty, it's form has changed throughout history however the festival's identity and essence of illuminating both the spirits of the people and the world have persisted. The Lotus Lantern Festival, which has a long history and has been passed down as a living cultural heritage, is a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and a UNESCO Intangible Heritage of Humanity recognized for its value as an intangible heritage.

-Traditional Lantern Exhibition (4/16 ~ 5/6)
Hanji paper filled up with light transforms into a variety of lanterns, brightening people's compassion and wisdom and warmly illuminates the world.

A Buddhist ceremony and service, followed by a lively Buddhist Cheer Rally (Yeonhuinuri) to enliven everyone's spirits

The lantern of Wisdom and Mercy, the lantern of Happiness and Peace, the lantern of Prayer and Hope; The majestic waves of peace packed with our hearts and souls embroider the city.

The flowerly rain of joy falls and happiness can be found with every hand that holds ours in the post-parade celebration.

If only the Lantern Festival was every day! It's a shame the festivities has to come to a close, so let us signal the finale with one final Parade from Insa-dong and one last Dance together, hand-in-hand with one another.

April 8th according to the lunar calendar is Buddha's Birthday.
Temples across the country will light lanterns filled with the hearts and souls of the people and hold ceremonies to commemorate the birth of Buddha.
