The special exhibition "Gathering Vibrance" at the Samgaksan Geumam Museum of Art showcases the aspirations of women during the Joseon Dynasty through the works of two female artists, Jeong Myoung-jo and Choi Yoon-ha, each presenting their interpretation in different genres.Jeong Myoung-jo expresses the back profile of women wearing traditional Hanbok in hyperrealistic style. As a university student,Jeong began drawing the charm of traditional garments at a Hanbok shop near her school. Choi Yoon-ha (Maison de Yoon) presents jewelry pieces that reinterpret traditional elements with a modern twist. The artist has created Hanbok accessories for K-pop idols such as IU, BLACKPINK's Rosé, and NMIXX's Seolyoon.During the Joseon Dynasty, a Confucian society with distinct gender roles and rigid class divisions, women were expected to minimize exposure. In the Yeongjo and Jeongjo periods, hair accessories were banned due to a royal decree. The only areas where women could express their femininity and adorn themselves were their styled hair and accessories worn on their clothes. This exhibition aims to reflect women’s instinct for adornment and their desires for wealth, fertility, and happiness through their decorative choices.
