Those who dive deep underwater know how to move toward the light.
Space K Seoul, Kolon’s cultural and artistic sharing space, hosts the solo exhibition 《Deep Diver》 by Bae Yun Hwan (b. 1983). The artist peels away the familiar layers of light and guides us into the achromatic world of black. That darkness is not emptiness, but rather a space of dense contemplation. His work abandons color and even minimizes form, forcing the gaze inward, deeper and deeper. Just as a diver holds their breath and enters stillness, viewers are invited to halt their thoughts before the canvas, open their senses, and confront its depth.
Bae Yun Hwan is an artist who begins with personal experiences and expands his vision to global issues. In his creative process, he unravels not only individual anguish but also the disintegration of communities and the signs of the times such as disasters and wars, expressed through his own allegorical techniques, thereby leading contemporary painting. This exhibition unfolds his narratives more broadly and deeply through works across various genres, including painting, drawing, installation, and video.
