Taepyeongseongdae (太平聖代) refers to an era governed by a wise king, in which the people live in peace and harmony. To modern individuals constantly exposed to news of war and division, it may seem like a distant utopia. However, looking back at history, there have been several eras remembered as periods of peace and prosperity. Although perspectives may differ, the eras of King Yeongjo and King Jeongjo during the Joseon Dynasty are often regarded as periods of Taepyeongseongdae. This exhibition highlights 18th-century Seoul, a period remembered for its historical resurgence. It focuses on the era of two rulers who, guided by the ideology of Tangpyeong (a policy of political stability and harmony), sought to bring about change and improve the lives of the people. The urban landscape of 18th-century Seoul, remembered as an era of peace and prosperity, welcomes you.
