Goblin: The Lonely and Great God is a fantasy-filled K-Drama about famed general Kim Shin (played by Gong Yoo) who gets killed and born again as an immortal goblin. Realizing that the only way to end his life is to meet the human priestess, Shin waits 900 years and finally encounters Ji Eun-tak (played by Kim Go-eun), a high school student who may be the key to ending Shin’s curse. This course features several filming locations that were showcased in the K-Drama. Discover these attractions and experience how the Goblin’s fantasy unfolds in present-day Seoul.

Course 1

A Romantic, Nature-Filled Attraction : Ilgamho Lake

Ilgamho is where Ji Eun-tak meets her first love Tae-hee (played by Jung Hae-in) in the K-Drama Goblin: The Lonely and Great God. It is located within Konkuk University’s Seoul campus but is open to the public all year-round. The lake is surrounded by ample greenery offering a gorgeous stroll. When the sun goes down, the arch bridge is beautifully lit up and rays of light reflected off the lake make for a stunning night view.

Where the Goblin Resides : Unhyeongung Palace Yanggwan Hall

 

“I will guide you to the safest place on Earth.” Whenever Ji Eun-tak was in danger, Kim Shin takes her into his house. The majestic residence in which Eun-tak, Goblin and his friend Grim Reaper (played by Lee Dong-wook) end up living together was filmedatYanggwanHall located within Unhyeongung Royal Residence. Formerly the private residence of Yi Jun-yong, the grandson of the regent Heungseon Daewongun, Yanggwan Hall was constructed in 1907 by a Japanese ambassador who was seeking the favor of theroyalfamily.The hall was one of the earliest examples of Western-style architecture in Korea, and it has also been featured in the K-Dramas Princess Hours and The King 2 Hearts.

 

Course 3

Elegant, Traditional and Quaint : The Yunposun-gil Area (One Day Hanbok - Cha-teul)

 

Ji Eun-tak has supernatural powers of her own, the ability to see and speak to ghosts. She encounters the ghost of an old lady who tells her the winning numbers for the lottery. Suddenly, Kim Shin the Goblin appears to her. Taken by surprise, the two start a mysterious conversation in front of an elegant stone wall. The scene was filmed near the residence of former president Yun Posun. While the historic home is not open to the public, many locals and tourists dress up in hanbok and visit the charming neighborhood to take unique photographs of themselves.



Located in the Yunposun-gil area, Oneday Hanbok is a hanbok rental shop specialized in servicing English, Chinese and Japanese-speaking tourists. Its selection of styles range from traditional to modern and casual. With over 1,000 hanbok showcased in the shop, visitors can find the perfect, social media-worthy fit at a highly affordable price. Oneday Hanbok charges 15,000 won for a four-hour rental and 28,000 won for a whole day. Across Yunposun-gil area, the narrow and winding alleys around Jeongdok Public Library leads visitors to a beautiful tea house. Housed inside a 100-year-old hanok resting on a hilltop, Cha-teul offers a variety of traditional Korean tea and an unparalleled view of the small houses that make up the neighborhood. During warmer seasons, visitors can leisurely meander about the well-kept garden where fragrant shrubs and lush green foliage grow. Iced omija (magnolia berry) and bokbunja (wild black raspberry) teas are brewed in-house and are often paired with Cha-teul’s house-made sweet pumpkin sirutteok (steamed rice cake).
