The Seoul Botanic Park is the nation’s first botanical park that organically combined a botanical garden with a park on a site that is as big as seventy soccer fields. The Theme Garden, which is a botanical garden, and the greenhouse have currently ceased operations in compliance with the COVID-19 prevention measures, but the outdoor parks, Forest Field, Lake Garden, and Wetland, will be open free of charge. The lower section of Yujin Shopping Center, which was abandoned for 50 years, was reborn as an art-filled road of light under the name “Hongje Yuyeon,” which means, “The waters of Hongjecheon Stream and human relationships flow together to heal and unite through art.” The 250-meter underground section of Yujin Shopping Center that had been kept closed was reopened and connected to the Hongjecheon Stream section. Eight works of art, including installations, lighting art, media art, and sound art, are installed along the waters that flow past the hundreds of columns holding up the building. The artworks combining immaterial media, such as light, sound, and colors, with digital technology transform the dark underground space into a world of enchanting light. Hongjecheon Stream, where Hongje Yuyeon rests, is an urban river that flows past Jongno-gu, Seodaemun-gu, and Mapo-gu into the Hangang River. The area is an excellent place to freely walk along the riverside and enjoy a walk at night.

Cheonjangsanhaneul-gil is a forest trail of a 1.76-kilometer course that connects the National Institute of Forest Science (NIFoS) (Hongneung Forest), military facility, back area of the Grand Peace Palace at Kyung Hee University, and Imun Children’s Public Library. The trail maximizes use of the existing forest roads and trails to preserve and maintain nature, creating a natural, eco-friendly trail. Wooden decks, stairs, and palm mats were installed, along with unmanned security cameras to match the geographical features for safe and comfortable walks. The trails between the trees offer an appreciation of the completely quiet and deep essence of the forest. Walk up and down the stairs of the wooden decks to discover a thick ridge packed with pine trees. At the tip of the ridge is an observatory that offers a view of the northern region of Seoul. This trail is fine for a daytime visit, but the installed lights also offer a time of tranquility at night.

Eungbongsan Mountain is also known as a “Forsythia Garden” as the mountain is covered with over 200,000 forsythias in the springtime. The mountain stands low at a height of 95 meters, but it offers a picturesque view of the Hangang River, Gangnam, and Gangbuk as it sits where the Jungnangcheon Stream and Hangang River meet. The pavilion at the top of the mountain is a nighttime attraction featured in many dramas like Find Me in Your Memory. The mountain presents a view of Donghodaegyo Bridge and Seongsudaegyo Bridge brightened with streetlights and lamp posts, along with a special scene of the Hangang River surrounded by car lights racing along the riverside roads. Famous as a zone for nighttime photography, the plaza observatory at the bottom of the pavilion is perfect for taking photos of the riverside, Namsan Mountain, and city lights at the same time. The pavilion is a resting area for residents and popular as a site for young couples on dates.
