December's Main Article
Winter in Korea may be cold but
there’s much to see and do in December.
Bid the year farewell and have fun all over Seoul!
The Seoul Plaza Ice Skating Rink is one of the city’s most popular annual winter events. Each year in December, the plaza in front of Seoul City Hall is transformed into a winter wonderland. An outdoor ice skating rink is installed for the winter season and this year, the ice skating rink will be in place from Dec. 22nd through Feb. 25th, 2018. Skates can be rented on-site for a small fee. Have a magical winter day in Seoul and start off with a session of ice skating! What better way to spend a December day than ice skating in the heart of Seoul? Seoul Plaza is ideally situated in relation to the city's other tourist attractions. After a skating session, visitors can walk to Cheonggye Plaza which is located at the start of Cheonggyecheon Stream. The Seoul Christmas Festival will be taking place at Cheonggyecheon and there will be fun activities and beautiful Christmas decorations along the stream. For visitors who are willing to brave the cold, exploring the neighborhoods along Cheonggyecheon can be great fun.

Visitors are spoiled for choice when it comes to Christmas events and festivals in Seoul. Though Christmas is a religious holiday, celebrations in Seoul tend to be more secular than religious. In Western countries like the US or Canada, the Christmas holiday is a family holiday and may include religious observance. Though there are religious observances in Korea for Christmas, the holiday is seen as more a couples' holiday than a family holiday. However, Seoul's Christmas festivities are great fun whether alone or visiting with loved ones. There will be several major Christmas events throughout the city. Visit the Seoul Christmas Festival by taking a stroll along Cheonggyecheon Stream. There will be beautiful lights, Christmas decorations, and photo zones. For an international experience, try the European Christmas Market In Seongbuk-gu. The market will feature delicacies and handcraft items from more than 14 different countries. Swing by Sinchon to round out a winter itinerary. The Sinchon Christmas Festival will have an arts and gift market, Christmas events, and concerts. Visit Seoul in December to experience the city's unique Christmas festivities!

Ring in the New Year like a true Seoulite at the New Year's Eve Bosingak Bell-Ringing Ceremony. The ceremony is the city's main New Year’s event and celebrations will begin in the evening on Dec. 31st, 2017. Though the bell-ringing will only take place right before midnight, the party will be starting early and visitors will want to arrive well before midnight for the best views of Bosingak. The ceremony is broadcast across Korea to mark the New Year, but don't settle for watching on TV. Nothing beats experiencing the bell-ringing ceremony live, in person. Bid the year farewell and say hello to the New Year on the streets of Seoul!
