February 14 is a day when couples fill the streets and those who do not have anyone can’t help but feel a little shaken up. Where would you go if you wanted to avoid the crowd or simply just wanted to soak in this day to the fullest? Out of the many museums in Seoul, we introduce to you today some of the most eccentric and unique of the bunch. First stop is the Grevin Museum, which houses over 80 different wax sculptures including notable figures like John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe, Tom Cruise, PSY, G-Dragon, Yuna Kim, King Sejong, and many more. Not only you can admire the wax versions of these international figures, but also you can take pictures, play roulette games, and even try out a machine where your face morphs with those of the stars. Because warm and fuzzy feelings are so appropriate on this romantic day, our next stop is a museum where these feelings come in abundance: The Teseum Seoul. Here, you can interact with life-sized teddy bears and experience the museum through different themes like Sinbad, Aqua, and Safari. The last romantic location is the Namsan Seoul Tower where people usually come to have their own chance to hang a couple lock on the fences surrounding the observatory deck. However, another fun activity awaits: the ALIVE museum. In this generation, taking pictures has become so normalized, and is pretty much a part of everyday life. The ALIVE museum allows you and your special person to take pictures in the most ridiculous, larger-than-life scenarios and make time full of special memories.
Valentine’s Day is not complete without some dessert. Sweet moments need to be celebrated with sweet foods. There are rumors of a delicious dessert café known for its cake and tarts. This whole time, your tastebuds have been missing out on peach, green grape tarts, Gateau Chocolat, Citron cakes, Earl Grey cakes, and Cherry Cakes, etc. One particular cake is especially popular amongst the customers: the Strawberry Cream Cake. If you want to be a little more secluded, our next location might be more your cup of tea. This guesthouse that doubles as a café is surrounded by trees, creating a still and quiet atmosphere. The walls of the café are lined with colorful artwork, and the plush sitting areas give you a sense of instant peace. One recommended menu item here is the carrot cake. It’s carrot cake with a crunch and the nutty texture is deliciously satisfying. Other menu items include a plain yogurt mixture with granola, nuts, and berries and a raspberry scone with jam and butter. It is a great location to wind down and withdraw from the frenzy of the city.
There’s a new tower in town. Aside from the Namsan Seoul Tower located in central Seoul, the Lotte World Tower & Lotte World Mall has made its mark in the south east. Construction began in 2010 and is expected to finish in December of this year. Once the tower is completed, it will have 123 floors and be 555 meters tall, making it the 6th largest building in the world next to the likes of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa (828 m) and China’s Ping An Finance Centre (660 m). The tower received a lot of attention even before any construction began. The tower has a shopping mall, department store, supermarket, movie theater, drawing the attention of many. Couples, as well as families and friends, come here for the cluster of well-known cafes and restaurants. There are also other landmarks in Seoul that illuminate brightly in the night, a good choice for the latter portion of your date. Although it’s still winter, your heart will definitely be warmed up by the beauty of the lights.
