On the southwestern side of Suraksan Mountain lies the stunning Byeokun Valley. The name Byeokun Valley originates from the inscription “Byeokun Dongcheon (碧雲洞天)” carved into a rock in the valley. The name was given because the spectacular white rock formations of Suraksan, exposed throughout the valley, blend with the ravine’s scenery in a way that resembles white clouds resting in the area. For those who enjoy hiking, a recommended course begins at Byeokun Valley and leads up to the summit of Suraksan. For those who prefer valleys over hiking, a well-maintained wooden deck along the stream provides a refreshing spot for a picnic.
