In 2016, a total of 364,189 medical tourists visited Korea, which represents a  22.6 percent increase compared to the previous year. Out of these tourists, 216,657 people (59.5 percent) traveled to Seoul. The city of Seoul has a total of  21,507 healthcare organizations (KOSIS, 2015). Among them, 14 are advanced level hospitals, which is almost a third of the 43 that are distributed throughout the country (Korea Health Industry Development Institute, 2014).
