Opened in Insa-dong in 2004, Ssamziegil is a traditional culture and shopping complex in Insa-dong. Insa-dong is an iconic area of Seoul and it is famous as the most traditional neighborhood in the city. Insa-dong's main road is lined with a large number of antique shops and folk art galleries. Ssamzi-gil is a place that continues the traditions of Insa-dong while complementing it with modern convenient facilities.
All four floors of Ssamzi-gil, can be accessed on foot via a footpath that runs for 500 meters from the first floor to the rooftop, circling around the courtyard like a spring. Lining the path are around 70 shops, including small workshops. Some of the workshops were originally located in Insa-dong and moved to Ssamziegil when the complex opened.
The first floor features designer art shops and restaurants based around a central courtyard, offering an opportunity to envisage a Korean traditional market. The second floor houses various traditional handicraft shops, and the third floor features fashion clothing and accessories. The fourth floor features places to relax, including cafes and exhibition spaces.
