Exploring Seoullo 7017 with Running Man

A recent episode of K-TV Show Running Man showcased the cast members running wild amidst the scenery of Seoullo 7017. Formerly an inner-city highway, Seoullo 7017 has been transformed to feature lush greenery, unique amenities and stunning views of Seoul’s urban landscape. Scattered throughout the newly-opened pedestrian-friendly park are 645 tree pots, 18 types of amenities, a variety of rest places and 17 different walking trails offering fresh hot spots for for both locals and tourists.

Of the eight entrances that appeared on the show, the Seoullo Terrace entrance was the most popular choice amongst the cast members while completing missions to win the race. Seoullo Terrace itself is a shopping mall located inside the Daewoo Foundation building. Featured throughout the basement, the first and the second floor of the building, the mall is filled with stylish restaurants and cafés. Of the many restaurants available, the most hyped venues at the moment are Emoi, one of the most popular Vietnamese Pho joints in Seoul; Sambaekjip, a 70-year-old eatery specialized in beansprout soup, a Jeonju specialty; and the Hamburg steak restaurant, Goosul Hamburg. Through the Seoullo 7017 pathway, Seoullo Terrace conveniently connects visitors to Hotel Manu Seoul as well.

After completing the first mission, the cast members of Running Man reunited for their second mission at Rose Square. The square can be easily accessed through the Malli-dong entrance, the Jungnim-dong entrance and the Cheongpa-dong entrance. Adorned with bedding plants and gorgeous roses in full bloom, Rose Square offers a tranquil and romantic vibe. Live performances take place at Rose Stage every day for couples, families and friends to enjoy together. The live music, the lovely red stage lights and all the lights beaming from the neighboring buildings come to create a unique urban sanctuary.
Throughout the episode of Running Man, lush greenery was spotted on every corner of Seollo 7017. That is because the one kilometer-park is filled with 645 plant pots. Each of them has a an identification label in Korean and English. QR codes and NFC tags are featured on each sign so that visitors can easily search and learn about the plants using their mobile device. Also placed along Seoullo 7017 are Curiosity Tree Pots offering unique sensory experiences. The one located in Malli-dong Square contains sounds from around Seoul’s famous landmarks, and the one found at the center of Seoullo 7017 creates augmented reality experience of the historical Sungnyemun, one of the Eight Gates of Seoul which was severely damaged by arson in 2008 and reopened in 2013 after its restoration. The Curiosity Tree Pot located near Namdaemun Market presenting Seoul’s night skyline is also not to be missed. All these amusing elements can be observed through peeping holes featured on each of the innovative sculptures.
The Travelers’ Café is not only a coffee shop but also a tourist information center. It connects local tour guides with international visitors to Seoullo 7017. Travelers’ Café’s resident tour guides provide information on the landmark in English, Chinese and Japanese. The café provides reservation services for various tour packages and carries a wide selection of travel necessities, as well. On the café menu are classic Korean floral teas and a variety of loose leaf teas.
