About
  • Life Library is a space that was created by pondering much on the “hanok (traditional Korean house) of nowadays.” We were in our mid-30s when we were sold a lot in the Hanok village, and the architects and other people truly emphasized the “traditional” image. However, I felt uncomfortable whenever I heard such comments. So, my husband and I “quietly” thought of a hanok unique to us. We wanted our hanok to give the warm feeling a wooden house provides. So, instead of the usual contrast between the wooden structure and white walls (or traditional Korean paper), we used patterned wood for both the wooden structure and walls to give a more comfortable vibe. This is why our Life Library feels different from other hanok houses. As for the furniture, we purchased somewhat old-fashioned ones with suitable designs and features that can be used even upon becoming grandparents. Made of wood, glass, and steel, they feel comfortable anytime. The unique-designed yet sustainable furniture that will feel great throughout our lifetimes are the enjoyable points of our house. I plan to hand down the Spanish chair I mostly use and cherish for my son ^^. The finishing touch of the space is the music. The vintage speakers on the first floor that my father-in-law gave us are in the living room and kitchen, spreading delicate sounds throughout the space. We always play lo-fi music to blend in with the surroundings harmoniously. On the second floor are the fireplace speakers that my husband remodeled. It is an LED fireplace, but it’s perfect for listening to music while quietly contemplating the beautiful scenery of Bukhansan Mountain that will warm your heart.
Details
  • Life Library consists of three floors. The kitchen, living room, and multimedia room are on the first floor. The guest room and second living room are on the second floor. Our main room, son’s room, and another living room with a TV are in the basement. We used the second floor when my friends or parents stayed over on the weekends, and those who stayed here all commented that they enjoyed it.
