The first, beginning, and start! These words fill our hearts with excitement!

Signaling the start of a new year for Global Seoul Mate, the induction ceremony took place on Feb. 22, 2019 at Dongdaemun Skypark Hotel and L’atelier. Held under the slogan, “Seoul’s Spark, Global Seoul Mate”, the event took off without a hitch!

Our very first meeting with the Global Seoul Mates who would go on to create and share Seoul’s charm with the world! Here’s how it went down.

The Induction Ceremony took place in three parts.

Part 1: Welcome Speech and Program Explanation
Part 2: Dinner Buffet
Part 3: Indoor Theme Park Attraction, “L’atelier” Tour

In Part 1, the CEO of Seoul Tourism Organization delivered his opening speech to relay his gratitude and thanks to the participating members of our Global Seoul Mate program. The manager of the 2019 Global Seoul Mate program also pledged to make this year an amazing success.

Afterwards, time was given for the Mates to acquaint themselves with their fellow members. Although it was a little awkward at first, everyone was soon talking and laughing with each other in no time.

Close to 100 foreigners, hailing from 44 different countries, were selected to be part of the 2019 Global Seoul Mate program. Competition was especially fierce this year. However, these Mates were able to pass through our rigorous screening process and were selected to take part in various activities to promote the city of Seoul for 2019.

After the official ceremonies in Part 1, a dinner buffet was prepared for our Mates in Part 2. Everyone had a great time as they dined on delicious food and snacks.

As the night and atmosphere began to peak, we held our lottery event! Excitement and tension filled the air as the announcement of each winning number was met with great cheer and applause.

After the official part of the ceremony was over, special time was given for Mates to tour and enjoy L’atelier, an interactive indoor art exhibition which utilized video and IT technology to make works of master artists like van Gogh and Monet come alive.

Mates were filled with awe and wonder as they wandered around this unfamiliar and new type of attraction. Throughout this tour, Mates helped each other take pictures against artsy backgrounds and interacted with the artworks displayed throughout the site.

As expected of Seoul Global Mates who are responsible for discovering and sharing the hidden charms of Seoul, everyone took numerous photos and videos as they toured L’atelier, beginning to create shareable content for the first mission of the year.

Although it was short, our bonds together as Global Seoul Mate has never been stronger. We hope everyone had a great time and were able to make special memories through this event. We look forward to seeing what new, amazing things they'll find and show us about Seoul!
