In the 1960s, Korea enjoyed an unprecedented period of economic growth, particularly in Seoul. Seoullo 7017 was created by transforming a Seoul Station overpass built in the 1960s into a pedestrian walkway where people can take a leisurely stroll and enjoy diverse images of Seoul from the modern period to the present day. Seoullo 7017 has revitalized the old area around Seoul station and become a leading destination in the capital, attracting over 18 million people since its opening. The following contents are the Seoullo 7017 walking tour courses.
From abandoned overpass to pedestrian walkway!
What is Seoullo 7017?
It is hard to believe that Seoullo 7017 used to be a busy inner city road packed with cars travelling from all over the country. As the overpass at Seoul Station gradually deteriorated, it was decided to redevelop it into a pedestrian walkway as part of a Seoul-type urban regeneration project. Now, Seoullo 7017 offers visitors a wide variety of events including street performances and the Seoullo market, which opens every Friday. It is a highly recommended destination for tourists to Seoul.

A little crash course in history!
Seoul Station Course
The Seoul Station Course runs from Culture Station Seoul 284, which was built by redeveloping the old Seoul Station building into a cultural space, to Mallijae Ridge, which is filled with retro and trendy stores. After the completion of the new Seoul Station in 2004, the old Seoul Station building was transformed into Culture Station Seoul 284 (10:00 - 19:00 / Closed Mondays), a cultural complex comprising a theater, exhibitions, performances and other events, in 2011. It also holds an exhibition in which visitors can participate.
If you walk for about 10 minutes from Culture Station Seoul 284, you will arrive at Handmade Shoe Street at Yeomcheongyo Bridge. This street, which has led Korea’s fashion trends since the 1920s, is appreciated for its warm-hearted and relaxed atmosphere that is quite unlike busy and noisy downtown Seoul. Tourists like to shop for unique homemade shoes here. If you get hungry while walking along the course, the next ideal destination will surely be Mallijae Ridge. This hotspot offers diverse cuisines including Western, Korean and Japanese food, as well as wine bars with a cozy, relaxing atmosphere.

A walk through Seoul's history
Namsan Hoehyeon Course
The Namsan Hoehyeon Course extends from Seoul Square, which is filled with diverse restaurants offering everything from a juicy steak to seolleongtang (ox bone soup), to Sungnyemun Gate, otherwise known as Namdaemun, the south gate of old Seoul. In particular, Seoul Square is a popular destination for enjoying a variety of delicious dishes including pizza, pasta, rice noodles, curry, and sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) at many renowned restaurants and cafés. After enjoying a satisfying meal at Seoul Square, you can continue walking along the course for about five minutes, where you will see the Namdaemun Presbyterian Church, a Gothic style edifice boasting 130 years of history that will take you back to the olden days in Seoul. The last destination on this course is the Bank of Korea Money Museum. This unusual tourist attraction invites visitors to discover the history of Korean currency and create a special memory. The museum also provides a guide service in English, Chinese, and Japanese. (10:00 - 17:00 / Closed Mondays).
