The Seoul Dance Festival, sponsored by the KoreaDance Association, with Professor Cho Namgyu as the Standing Director, first commencedin 1979 as the "Korean Dance Festival" so as to contribute to the development of danceart in Korea through quality creative dance performances. By 2019, the festivalhad solidified itself as the best domestic dance festival around. From two yearsprior to that in 2017, with the beginnings of widespread changes to the program,each year witnessed the festival team take to new challenges and push for furtherprogram development. It was in 2019 when the festival finally earned itself a satisfactory("S") evaluation in the Korean Arts Assessment Program, winning over bothdancers and the public with its standard of excellence.

Without limiting itself to a particular genre,denomination, or age group, the Seoul Dance Festival involves the active participationof middle-aged and senior dancers, as well as that of public arts organizations. This has led to the continual planning and development of various dance contentand genres, spawning the tireless effort to innovate and advance Korean dance. Asa result, the festival has become the signature dance festival of Seoul, featuringover 500 dancers performing amid as many as 20,000 spectators.

The festival has now been around for the last41 years shaping the dance community of Korea, and with its surpassing the 40-yearmark, it has become the perfect opportunity for the festival to carry on its tradition, while also pushing the envelope on the art of dancing for even greater success and advancement.
