The number of daily travelers passing through Incheon Airport saw a drastic decrease from an average of 230,000 to 7,000 travelers, the equivalent of 1/30th the number from last year. It's hard enough to carry out simple conversations on a daily basis with our masks on, let alone think about trying to travel abroad, but this year's Day Travel exhibition is here to provide a little bit of respite from the these difficult times.
Rather than maintaining the traditional vibe of an art gallery, the Day Travel exhibition seeks to provide an ambiance similar to that of an airport interior that seemingly boards expo-goers on a plane before "arriving" in the departure terminal where people can enjoy the feeling and excitement as if ready to embark on a distant travel abroad.
Once everyone has "disembarked," they will have arrived at a gallery area featuring the works of artists that captures their impressions of personal travels and daily life, while sharing their experiences traveling so as to remind visitors of the intrinsic value of traveling and provide a sense of consolation for those nostalgic for the days heading out on an adventure abroard.
The exhibition offers yet another message to its visitors, besides simply portraying the theme of traveling. And that message has to do with the environment. Perhaps we are stuck in quarantine within our homes and country borders due to the pandemic, but we might see a day when the idea of travelers themselves might become a thing of the past amid worsening environmental pollution. The exhibits on display offer the opportunity to think over and put into practice the issues and solutions concerning the environment, while participating environment organizations will be operating a campaign in tandem with the exhibition to ensure the environmental protection of travel destinations.
It is hoped that Day Travel will serve as a meaningful opportunity to partake in activity to protect these areas of travel. Feel free to stop by and make an adventure of the exhibition and all the wonderful content and themes on display!
All visitors are required to scan their QR code or sign an attendance sheet upon entry at the information desk so as to ensure the observance of proper safety procedure. The number of visitors allowed into the exhibition at any given time is limited to 40, and it is asked that everyone maintain their distance from one another while enjoying the exhibition.
