The artist, Chae Soowon, launched this exhibition with the hope of bringing about a reflection on human behavior toward the environment, while also demonstrating the possibilities for a sustainable tomorrow using more traditional materials from days passed. Focusing on the use of four ingredients, including red clay, gelatin, glycerin, and water, Chae illuminates upon the process of creating new, eco-friendly materials that are both sustainable and ecological and becoming more familiar with their possibilities and future application. This project, in essence, partly pays hommage to the "wiser ways" of ancient civilizations that were able to survive within nature by extracting a number of functions and possibilities for application from red clay. It's part of an effort to invoke a sense of curiosity and creativity through a repitition of spontaneity and planning using as few materials as possible.

The countless process of trial and error helped enable the ability to better manipulte thickness and flexibility, as well as color and texture, by constantly adjusting the different variations of the temperature, ratio, and production of materials. After creating a variety of samples, Chae was able to offer new solutions in material development that are both realistically feasible and applicable in the present day. For one of the ingredients, gelatin, Chae contacted a company called Estonia, a gelatin specialist, to collaborate and share on any findings within their respective research, which led to the exhibition here today. 

All expo-goers are free to sample the various materials that Chae created through a series of trail and error during the research.
