Breadsome Breakfast
To some, breakfast is a necessity to starting a good day. There’s no better way to starting your morning right than having breakfast at Richemont Seongsan. Offering a bread buffet everyday at 8 in the morning where visitors can gorge on bread from an hour to an hour and a half, Richemont Seongsan is the perfect place to recharge your energy.
Showing European bread as part of a publicity stunt back in 2000, the bread buffet offers an unlimited amount of a small selection of bread. Featuring five or six types of bread like “Morning Bread” and rye bread, a selection of spreads including ham, butter, and cheese, and drinks like milk, juice, and coffee, the bread buffet has quite a limited selection for a buffet. However each menu is a stable, true to its form and taste. Whether you spread the fluffy, white Morning Bread with jam or stuff the rye bread with ham and cheese, you’ll find your mouth bursting with authentic flavors.
Acknowledged on a national level, Richemont is beloved 40-year-old Seoul bakery which has been passed down two generations. Due to its long history, it's always swarming with old time regulars every morning. The specialness of this particular store lies not in keywords like "Seoul's Top 3 Bakeries," but in its ability to endure and slowly build upon itself over the years.
A place that opens for business while the rest of the market closes for the night, Yangjae Flower Market is Korea's largest wholesale flower market. Opened up in 1991, Yangjae Flower Market covers an area of 80,000 sq. meters and is a place where close to KRW 300 million is exchanged through auctions on a daily basis. Imagine how wonderful it'd be to browse through the flower market surrounded by the floral scent of freshly cut flowers.
The place with the most activity in Yangjae Flower Market is the fresh flower market which is open until 1 pm. Taking up two floors, the number and type of flowers sold here is at least 100 times more than the amount found in local flower shops. Like any market, the price range of flowers vary widely by shop, so it's recommended to shop around a bit before making your actual purchases. However, as it gets closer to closing time, visitors should note that flowers may be sold out, stores may be closed, or stores may demand a greater minimum amount of purchase before they sell you their products.
Visitors can also shop for flower baskets or bouquets at the wreath store, located in the basement level of the building.
Anyone who has ever visited Seoul even once will fall for the many charms of Hangang River. There are many cities with rivers around the world. However, none of them compare to Hangang in terms of its magnificence. A beautiful attraction all year round, Hangang is a popular spot and venue for a variety of activities like picnicking, hiking, jogging, and biking. However, there’s no doubt summer is the best season to experience the true charms of Hangang River as visitors can partake in a wide variety of water activities to escape the heat.
For most of us, trying out a new water sport is simply not possible due to most activities requiring costly equipment and preparations. However, on Frip, Korea's first activity platform, visitors can find information on 1,000 different outdoor activities including water sports and activities. All they need to do is access the platform via the website or app to find a list of activities offered by professionals, companies, or regular hobbyists and simply sign up for a program they're intrested in. The "City Night Kayak" offered by Lunaru is a popular activity that has garnered great reviews over the past few years.
Euljiro is a trending neighborhood located in central Seoul. Once an old industrial neighborhood filled with steel factories, printing press, and small old stores and alleyways, Euljiro has been transforming into a popular hangout for the younger crowds as indie bookstores, café, and clubs starting moving into the area. Seendosi, a place set up by art and photography major Lee Byung-jae and Lee Yun-ho respectively, is one of such places transforming the old neighborhood into something new.
Leaving and reusing the sign of a first generation gay bar called Seendosi (New City), Seendosi is located on the 4th and 5th floor of the building. Rather than adding inconvenience, the unexpected location has made this place become a catalyst of raising expectations. Walking past the 4th floor currently used as the two owner’s workspace, visitors arrive at the 5th floor where the interior is decorated with mismatched furniture that seem to lend a unique vibe to this place which can change fluidly from being a bar to exhibition hall to performance venue.
On the day a bunch of Asian DJs come to play music, Seendosi transforms itself into a dance club. It wouldn’t be right to think of this place as one of those clubs. Rather visitors should think of this place as a small niche club where they can discover new kind of music and enjoy dancing to it with a small group of like-minded people.
