Cheongdoeupseong Fortress is located between two mountain ridges extending towards Namsan Mountain and the Cheongdocheon Stream, respectively, and is currently Gyeongsangbuk-do Monument No. 103. The length of the fortress is about 1.8 km. To protect local residents from foreign invaders, construction of the fortress began in the Goryeo period as a fortress made of a mix of stone and soil. It was rebuilt as a stone fortress when the Joseon government repaired fortresses across the country in preparation for the Japanese invasion just before the Imjin War in 1592, but suffered great damage during the war. In later times, facilities such as the walls and gates were repeatedly restored and destroyed until they were completely demolished during the Japanese occupation. Since 2005, a restoration project has been underway based on excavation results and literature materials.

Eupseong bapgi

Cheongdoeupseong bapgi is the only eupseong bapgi rite (lit. "treading the fortress") passed down in the Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do Province regions and is held every year in February of the lunar calendar. It is a traditional folk game unique to this region, originating from the custom where local men guarded the fortress and women carried stones used to strengthen the fortress walls or as weapons on their heads. Since ancient times, there has been a belief among the locals that making a round of this fortress will give them good health, two rounds will bring them longevity, and three rounds will grant their wishes. Recently, as the rite has become widely known online, many tourists visit the fortress with their families and friends.
