In the Mureung Scenic Spot, with the ridge and valley in the middle, there is Haksodae Cliff on the sunny side and Beteulbawi Rock on the shady side. Located at an elevation of 550 meters above sea level on Dutasan Mountain, Beteulbawi Rock got is name from its rugged precipice in the shade blocked by a high mountain that looks like a loom ("beteul" in Korean). According to a folktale related to the place, a fairy who violated a rule of heaven was expelled to Sogeumgang Valley, where she repented while weaving three rolls of silk before ascending back into heaven. It takes about 4 hours and 20 minutes to take the trail that goes to and from Beteulbawi Rock (14.9km). To take this trail, you must depart from the entrance to Mureung Scenic Spot, take a look around Samhwasa Temple and Dutasanseong Fortress, and go down Dutasan Mountain. You can enjoy not only the Beteulbawi Sanseong-gil Trail but also the scenic sites of Mureung Valley against a background of Dutasan Mountain and Cheongoksan Mountain, celebrated mountains of Donghae. Nearby, you can also find camping facilities and the Donghae Mureung Health Forest, where you can spend a night to experience the eco-friendly, healing accommodation.
