Not far from Seoul, in the middle of Gyeonggi Province one will find the city of Yongin. While it is not as large as some of the other cities one may find around Korea, it has become a must-visit place for tourists both foreign and domestic. It houses Korea’s largest amusement park, Everland, as well as the Hoam Art Museum, which holds some of Korea’s most treasured art, and the Korean Folk Village. 

Everland, which often draws comparisons to Disneyland because of the large scale, similar architecture and themes, is Korea’s largest amusement park. In fact it was the 6th most frequented amusement park in the world in 2002. It is comprised of many different areas that provide a little something for everyone. Among these areas are Global Land, Zoo-Topia, European Adventure, American Adventure, Caribbean Bay and Magic Land. In Global Land one will find eating establishments and gift shops. The Hoam Art Museum, home to some of the finest Buddhist art, calligraphy, paintings, celadon and porcelain vases found in Korea, calls Yongin its home. The grounds of the Hoam Art Museum are truly a sight to behold, covering about 66,000 square meters and containing Korean style gardens and the Bourdelle Garden where the sculptures of French sculpture Bourdelle’s works are displayed. Inside the museum is no less spectacular with almost all 4,000 meters squared of the building displaying the finest art from Korea’s proud history.

Korean Folk Village, the largest folk village in Korea, is also found in Yongin and contains nearly 260 houses on 243 acres built in the late Joseon era style. One can traditional crafts of the period recreated in one of the twenty workshops that have maintained these classic skills without impairment over the years.
