Sindang-dong Tteokbokki Town, located in Jung-gu, Seoul, is known as the birthplace of jeukseok tteokbokki, a style of rice cake dish that is cooked and eaten directly at the table. Beginning with the restaurant opened by Grandma Ma Bok-rim in 1953, the entire alley became lined with specialty tteokbokki restaurants. It is a place where visitors can experience the history and tradition of Korean street food culture while enjoying a variety of flavors and nostalgic charm. Variations such as seafood, jjajang (black bean sauce), and dakbal (spicy chicken feet) tteokbokki are also available. Popular restaurants include Ma Bok-rim Tteokbokki, I Love Sindang-dong, and Samdae Halmeonne. Although the number of visitors has declined in recent years, it remains a well-known destination for street food lovers and tourists as one of Korea’s representative snack streets.
