Seoul Editors' Chat
Yo! What’s up, everyone?
Any plans now that summer’s here?
Ariel, China
What's up, Rocky! Well, I want to go to the beach!
Erika, Japan
The beach? Me too, but you know we’ll likely be stuck inside for the summer…
Olga, Russia
I’m going glamping next weekend!
Chen, Taiwan
Whoa, cool! I bet you’ll eat all sorts of good food!
Olga, Russia
Yeap! I’m going to go with friends and film a mukbang together.
Have you guys heard of convenient store food combos , by chance?
Korean convenient stores sell all sorts of stuff!
Olga, Russia
Exactly! So the plan is to get a bunch of items and mix and match different foods!
Erika, Japan
That sounds great!
Chen, Taiwan
Does anyone have food combos that come to mind?
As far as convenient store food goes? Beer and pizza all the way!
Olga, Russia
Beer and pizza? That’s no fun…
You ever hear of Mark’s signature dish ?
Ariel, China
What's that?
Olga, Russia
It follows a recipe made by a fan of Mark from the Kpop group, GOT7.
It was named after him!
It’s super easy to make, and tastes so good! People absolutely love it!
Chen, Taiwan
I never heard of it before! What’s in it?
Olga, Russia
Any convenient store brand spaghetti ramen, tteokbokki, sausage, and string cheese!
Chen, Taiwan
I can't picture it. How do you make it??
Olga, Russia
First, cook the spaghetti ramen up, then add the tteokbokki and sausage, already prepared.
And at the very end, top it with cheese and bon appetit! Easy, right? Takes just 10 minutes!
Ariel, China
Olga, Russia
It’s the bomb! Russian people like this style of food, so I often cook it up myself.
That's a pretty neat food combo idea! What else is there?
Erika, Japan
Something refreshing would be nice to beat the heat…
Chen, Taiwan
Something refreshing? Recently, I make myself a honey makgeolli on the daily
Simply add one part milk to one part makgeolli and give it a shake! Then add honey to taste!
I LOVE Korean rice wine! Let’s make one in a bit!
Chen, Taiwan
Sweet!
Ariel, China
Well, if ya’ll are going to have makgeolli, I have a suggestion for people like Erika and myself that don’t drink alcohol!
Ariel, China
Mogu Mogu Sparkling! All it takes is a Mogu Mogu drink and some peach sparkling soda and that’ll do it!
Erika, Japan
Good idea, Ariel! That’s the kind of thing kids would love too!
I guess I should share a great idea for dessert!
Ariel, China
Are you talking about that biscuit butter sandwich thingy?
Erika, Japan
Yeap! Just layer sweet bean jelly and butter between two biscuit cookies and voilà!
Olga, Russia
They don’t sell sweet bean jelly in Russia… Nutella should do the trick!
Chen, Taiwan
That’s just a snack! I enjoy eating something heartier. Why don’t we make some fried rice with snow crab mustard?!
Ariel, China
Crab? I love crabs!
Chen, Taiwan
Crab mustard is a really well-known dish in Korea, but it’s so expensive that it’s hard to enjoy on a regular basis. Ever since it’s release in convenient stores, though, people are loving it!
Erika, Japan
Totally. They even sell marinated shrimp, marinated salmon, and other stuff now.
Chen, Taiwan
I know, right? My Taiwanese friend said that’s the first thing she wants to try when she comes to visit!
All you need to do is fry up some green onions, eggs, instant rice, and crab mustard with some sesame oil in the pan!
Ariel, China
While we’re at it, let’s cook up some Omori kimchi and sausage stew !
Erika, Japan
Whaaaat? What the heck is that?
Ariel, China
Just go get some Omori Kimchi Stew Ramen at any GS25 convenient store.
Then add your favorite sausage and a half-boiled egg for a tasty meal!
Chen, Taiwan
All this sounds good and all, but people from the States might find everything to be too bothersome to deal with…
For me, I’m perfectly satisfied with some good ol’ beer and pizza !
Ariel, China
Well, beer is the perfect accompaniment for any summer day!
Especially with the four cans for 10,000 won deal!
Olga, Russia
All this talk of food has stirred up my appetite!
Everyone come on over then! Be sure to drop by the convenient store on your way!
Olga, Russia
You got it!
Chen, Taiwan
Let’s do this!
Erika, Japan
Off to the convenient store!
