Boan Inn, of the Tongui-dong neighborhood, originally served as a rest stop for a number of travelers from 1942 to 2005. Continuing the cultural legacy of Boan Inn, the current space opened in 2017 for artists who create and enjoy various cultural and visual events. Boan Inn has an unusual structure that connects the well-preserved old Boan Inn building with the newly constructed Boan 1942 building through a passageway. The old Boan Inn serves as a gallery, while Boan 1942 contains a café, a bookstore and accommodations.
The old Boan Inn continously offers a wide variety of free exhibits. There was great effort to preserve its original form, which can still be seen from inside the gallery. Perhaps this is why the place is known to offer visitors a magical experience, as if this is the only space in Seoul where time stands still.
The gallery remains well preserved and is itself an extensive exhibition area. As there is no gatekeeper controlling access, the place is open to all, allowing visitors to freely explore exhibited artworks displayed throughout the first and second floors.

On the second floor of Boan Inn, there is a hall leading to the next building. After walking through the passageway that bridges the past and the present, you will enter Boan 1942. There is a café on the first floor and a bookstore on the second floor, while the third and fourth floors contain guest rooms.
Boan Stay, which runs as an unmanned accommodation, provides passwords via email to visitors once they make reservations. It also features works by artists that collaborated with Boan Inn, making it another exhibition space within the complex.
