The Seoul Fortress Wall Footpath - Naksan Park Course is considered to be one of the best walking paths in Seoul. This course is popular among couples because it is close to Daehangno Street which is home to cozy cafes and art galleries. There are three ways to get to the top: Hyehwamun Gate, Dongdaemun Gate, and Daehangno Street. The path from Hyehwamun Gate to Naksan Park is well-known for its beautiful scenery. The path from Daehangno is popular among those who prefer leisurely strolls.

The Seoul City Wall offers us a glimpse of Seoul’s long history. This footpath is characterized by its winding path which is also a trademark of Naksan Park. The trail links to the sections of Hanyangdoseong (Seoul City Wall), Naksan, and Hyehwa. It has become a representative walking course of Seoul. Walking along this section makes you feel as if you are at an outdoor museum. You can also enjoy an open view of Seoul and the old fortress’s features.
When darkness falls, subtle lights illuminate the fortress trail surrounding Naksan Park. The fantastic views of Seoul below the fortress lets you travel back and forth from the past and present. While the city seems busy at night, it feels quiet and still at Naksan Park. If you want to experience old Seoul, try walking along this path on a night in autumn.
If you walk along the Fortress Wall of Naksan Park, Hyehwamun Gate will come into view across the street. Hyehwamun Gate was built five years after the foundation of the Joseon Dynasty when they established the fortress surrounding the city center in 1397. It is also called “Dongsomun Gate” because it was originally located between the East (Dong) Gate and the North (Buk) Gate among other somun (small gates). Heunginjimun Gate was built during the Joseon Dynasty. It boasts a spectacular sight surrounded by stone walls. It is located near the restaurant section of Dongdaemun Market. This cultural heritage displays the beauty of the construction style of the late Joseon Dynasty. After the fire at Sungnyemun Gate, this gate has been valued more highly than ever. Nevertheless, both sides of the fortress wall were torn down and only this gate remains in the middle of the road.
