In Seoul, you don't need to go far to get an excellent view of the city sights. Seoul is unique because greenery and nature is embedded into the city. From the city skyline to hanok villages to the mountains, visit the following 10 places to see different gorgeous views around Seoul.
The View : Pyeongchang-dong Area Where to Go : Mostly a residential area, you can still find a variety of galleries and art museums in this neighborhood. On the outskirts of the Bukhansan Mountain, you can get an excellent view of Pyeongchang-dong from the Gana Art Gallery. The gallery functions as a cultural space, hosting art exhibitions, performances and events. There is also a restaurant, acadamy hall, outdoor stage and art shop on site. The entrance fee varies from exhibition to exhibition, but is typically around 3,000 won. Parking is available at this location.
The View : Buam-dong, Pyeongchang-dong, Bukhansan Area Where to Go : Famous for being one of Korea’s most scenic routes, the Bugak Skyway is an excellent option for a relaxing drive along Bugaksan mountain. Particularly popular for it's night view, one side of the Skyway looks out onto Namsan mountain, and the other looks out onto Bukhansan mountain. The road leads to the Palgakjeong Pavillion, at which you can enjoy the view as well as any snacks and drinks that you've packed.
The View : Seoul Skyline by Night Where to Go : Namsan Seoul Tower (formerly known as Namsan Tower) is the perfect spot for viewing the city by night. Whether you decided to reach the top via hiking, cable car or a tour bus, once you arrive, you won't be dissapointed. The observatory is 479m off the ground, but you can get an equally beautiful view from the mountain top.
Zaha Museum
The View : Buam-dong Area Where to Go : Hike up the narrow alleys of Buam-dong, and you will eventually arrive at Seoul’s highest museum, the Zaha Museum. From the 2 nd floor showroom, visitors can look over Buam-dong and it’s breathtaking landscape. Additionally, entrance to the museum is free. It is open from 10:00 to 18:00, but closed on Mondays.
Seoul's Dream Forest
The View : Beon-dong Area (A mix of city and forest) Where to Go: As the name suggests, the Dream Forest is a magical place, at which there are 7 small waterfalls, several ponds and gardens, as well as a water park. Having recently undergone many restorations, the Hanoks (deemed cultural heritage sites), pavilions and landscapes are more beautiful than ever. The Northern-Seoul Art Center is made up of a performance hall, book café and gallery, along with a uniquely designed observatory. On one side of the observatory, you’ll get a perfect view of the Bukhansan, Dobongsan and Suraksan mountains, while other sides point to the Namsan Seoul Tower and the Hangang River. Also to note, the Korean drama 'IRIS' was filmed at the observatory. You can reach this area via public transportation. There is also free parking available.
Bukchon Observatory
The View : Bukchon Hanok Village Where to Go : We highly recommend visiting the Bukchon Observatory for a special view of the Bukchon Hanok Village. The entrance fee to the observatory is 3,000, and visitors are offered a complimentary drink as well. The sea of ceramic rooftiles makes for a quintessentially Korean view, that is stunning regardless of the season.
Noksapyeong (Yongsan-gu Office)
The View: Noksapyeong Area Where to Go: Unlike many of the look-outs on this list, the 10 th floor of the Yongsan-gu Office gives out to the relaxing scenery of Noksapyeong, minus all of the skyscrapers. The Sky Garden is open every day from 10:00 to 24:00. While enjoying the view, kick back and relax with a book and coffee. The Book Café has over 4,000 volumes of books and magazines, as well as a Kids Zone. The opening hours are 09:00 to 18:00 on weekdays.
The View : Changdeokgung Palace, Wonseo-dong Area Where to Go : Gallery Arario has asserted its position as a main player in the contemporary art scene, both locally and internationally. The 5-floor space hosts works by progressive international artists from Korea, China, India and Southeast Asia. Aside from the art, the massive windows, which look out onto the Changdeokgung Palace and Wonseo-dong area are definitely a highlight. Entrance to the museum typically costs 15,000 won, and parking spaces are allotted to those who dine in the restaurant.
Seoul Metropolitan Library
The View : Seoul City Hall Area Where to Go : Once Seoul’s City Hall building, the newly restored Seoul Metropolitan Library offers a nice atmosphere for catching up on your reading. The lesser-known 5 th floor rooftop has a sky garden where you can catch an impressive view of Seoul’s city skyline. Admire the contrast between buildings, old and new, as well as the clear view of favorite attractions like the Blue House (the President’s house). On weekdays, the book cafe is open from 10:00 to 17:00. Fun fact: this is also one of the filming locations for Psy’s ‘Gentleman’ music video.
The View : Gwanghwamun Area Where to Go : On the 8th floor, a lovely rooftop garden leads to an impressive view of the Gwanghwamun area and the Bukhansan, Inwangsan and Naksan mountains. Also, note that the entrance to the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History's permanent exhibition is free, so be sure to have a peek!
