Spring has finally come. We can breathe in the scent of flowers and fresh grass without having to wear a mask. The time has come to truly enjoy yellow forsythia and pinkish cherry blossoms, which typically symbolize the beginning of spring. The colorful flowers and green tree leaves all over Seoul also join in to celebrate the change of seasons.
Let’s step outside, carrying excitement in our hearts, to join the spring festivity. In recognition of the National Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed on April 20 in South Korea, we recommend several walking routes in Seocho-gu (also known as Seocho District) that offer an opportunity for individuals of all ages, irrespective of their disabilities, to enjoy the beauty of nature within an urban environment.
Seoripul Park & Barrier-Free Walkway in Seoripul Park Observatory
Seocho-gu provides walking courses that can be enjoyed by everyone for appreciating the beautiful season of spring. Seoripul Park and the barrier-free trail near the Seoripul Park Observatory are widely known for urban forest walking trails. The barrier-free walkway in Seoripul Park welcomes families with strollers or wheelchair users to pleasantly enjoy what nature has to offer and look out onto the scenery of Seoul city at the observatory.

Seoripul Park Offers a Natural Respite Downtown
There are safe and serene forests and parks hidden in the midst of the concrete jungle encompassing rows of high-rises. Located on the hills of Seocho-gu as it passes through the center of the district, Seoripul Park is widely known for its barrier-free cherry blossom path, has a wooden walkway accessible to all visitors can equally and comfortably enjoy walking through the park, in addition to various amenities, such as rest areas and restrooms.
Visitors will encounter diverse kinds of trees, flowers, and plants while walking on the Seoripul barrier-free walkway. Some flower favorites, magnolia and lilac, as well as kerria and hydrangea, can be spotted along with arrow trees, oak trees, silver aspen trees, and Paulownia trees. Seoripul Park hosts beds of vibrant flowers in the spring, welcomes a dense, green forest in the summer, transforms into a tinted mosaic of autumn colors in the fall, before being blanketed by a crisp, white layer of snow in the winter.
Seoripul Park is also in close vicinity of Montmartre Park, which has been featured on TV and other media, and Seorae Village, an area well-known for famous restaurants, which are all worth a visit. Enjoy a Stroll and Take in the Scenery at Seoripul Park Observatory
Slowly walking on a wooden walkway in the Seoripul barrier-free forest trail leads to the Seoripul Park Observatory. Despite a relatively lower altitude, Seoripul Park Observatory still provides a clear view of the city by being open in all directions. Hangang River, Hangangdaegyo Bridge, and Nodeul Island are all visible from the observatory, while high-rise buildings of the city create a captivating urban canvas in the background. Seoripul Park Observatory also has rest areas in the form of traditional pavilions for visitors to relish in nature’s beauty and immerse themselves in true relaxation.
Basking in the Warmth of the Spring Sun in Naegok, Seocho-gu
Spring is the perfect season to take a stroll under the warm spring sunshine to loosen up our bodies after being all curled up during the long winter. And there's no better place to do that than the Naegok-dong Walkway, which starts from Cheonggyesan Station and goes around the Seocho Flower Garden, Yeouicheon Stream, and the Cheonggyesan Mountain waterside park. It will be a great opportunity to learn and cherish various types of plants in the natural ecosystem of Seoul.

A Haven of Blooming Flowers All Year Round in Seocho Flower Garden
Once you go out through exit 1 of Cheonggyesan Station, located on the Shinbundang Line, and walk past a dark pink sculpture resembling an azalea with a sign that says, “Seocho Flower Garden,” you will find a small hill covered with colorful patches of spring flowers. Seocho Flower Garden presents an array of flowers, including spring rape blossoms, along with poppies, cornflowers, and gypsophila. The garden is also decorated with signboards designed with calligraphy and sculptures modeled after Instagram for being a great spot to take photographs. Start your transition into the spring ambience at the flower-filled Seocho Flower Garden.

The Quiet Tranquility of Yeouicheon Stream Walkway
Flowing along the Seocho Flower Garden and waterside park, the Yeouicheon Stream is relatively quieter and less crowded than Yangjaecheon Stream, the more popular of the two. The Yeouicheon Stream walkway, which is under the dazzling tunnel of cherry blossoms blooming along the stream on both sides, becomes a part of greenery once the cherry blossom flowers have gone and the fresh, green leaves start springing to life. Owing to the absence of tall buildings around the stream, the sound of flowing water can be clearly heard at Yeouicheon Stream on top of an open view of the nature. Give yourself a healing experience at Yeouicheon Stream by indulging in the natural atmosphere highlighted by the tadpoles playing in the clear water, the fluttering of butterflies between flowers, and the chirping melodies of the birds.

Waterside Ecological Park near Cheonggyesan Mountain Brings Nature to You
The waterside ecological park near Cheonggyesan Mountain, which aims to create a co-existing space with nature, is situated on a fairly large area that requires more than an hour to explore in its entirety. The scenery embracing the paths lined with trees and a pavilion on the hill creates a peaceful ambience, which contrasts with the concrete jungle outside the park.
You may also find unusual plants along the walkway, where there are small signs describing the plants inhabiting the park for visitors to learn and discover new plant life they may have not encountered before. The waterside park is designed with a walkway that is easy to access for everyone, offering an enjoyable experience to all visitors.
The waterside park also operates a fountain and a swimming pool in the summer for kids and families. Great oaks and cypress trees towering over yellow dandelions and pink azaleas lining the walkway will surely leave you with something to remember. So, get started on your spring outing at the Naegok-dong Walkway around the Seocho Flower Garden and Yeouicheon Stream, before venturing into the waterside park!
