After months of trying to stay warm indoors, spring is finally here! Though it would be nice to say we found ways to stay active during the winter, truth be told, most people locked themselves up in their rooms. We were in a global pandemic this winter, after all. Nevertheless, Seoul is especially stunning during this time of year, so don’t miss out on the following list of walking trails and sights to see that go along with our unique playlist! So, put your earbuds on, turn the volume up, and enjoy your own excursion during this exciting and rejuvenating time of year!
Playlist 1: Welcoming in the spring at Seoripul Park “Would You like to Walk with Me?” by Jukjae
If you’re looking to start your spring strolls close to the city center, Seoripul Park should be your go-to as it is easily accessible by train and bus from any part of Seoul. If you’re using the subway, get off at Bangbae Station and head out exit 4. Once you arrive, you will find this beautiful park has dirt paths that are often used for hiking. Many people use these paths on the way home from work, too, so you can be rest assured that it is well maintained and you won’t mess up your nice shoes!
Playlist 2: Feel the rush of spring on Seoraeseom Island “Bom” by Bolbbalgan4
Ride the subway or bus to Banpo Hangang Park and walk along the Hangang River to the lush and vibrant Seorae Island. There is a walking path you can take that will bring you through stunning fields of buckwheat flowers and greenery, observation decks to take in the scenery of the river, and many great places to stop and take photos. In the middle of the island is a shelter, and there are a few benches scattered throughout the island’s promenade if you want to take a rest and relax. When you’re ready to continue your spring excursion, make your way to Sinbanpo Station, located about 13 minutes away southeast of the island.
Playlist 3: Take in the aroma of spring at the Herb Astronomy Park “Your Shampoo Scent in the Flowers” by Jang Beom-jun
In the afternoon, head out east to the Herb Astronomy Park, which is only a 13-minute walk from Gildong Station. The Herb Astronomy Park offers an ideal walking path that takes you through a variety of planted herbs, which will enhance the aromatic experience of your spring walk. There is also a 24-hour astronomical observatory to check out, especially in the late afternoon.
Playlist 4: Mongchontoseong Fortress “When Cherry Blossoms Fade” by I.O.I
In the evening of your spring-day stroll, consider getting onto the subway or a bus with your sweetheart and go to Mongchontoseong Fortress, located in Olympic Park. This fortress was used long ago, dating back to the early Baekje Dynasty. As the sun starts to set and the night breeze carries you into the wooded trails, consider walking up one of the hills, which will give you an excellent view of the city lights against the night sky.
Address 424, Olympic-ro, Oryun-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul
Playlist 5: Keepin’ it local at Hyochang Park “Kibuntat” by Sleepy
Instead of taking the time to travel way out from the city center, explore the popular walking trail over at Hyochang Park. Take the bus or the subway and get off at Hyochang Park Station and walk just a few minutes north toward Sookmyung Women’s University. The pavilion spread throughout the park offers a peaceful respite away from the city clamor. As you make your way around the promenade you can stop by the royal burial grounds and tombs where those who fought for Korea’s independence during the Japanese Occupation are laid to rest. Feel free to also stroll by the memorial hall to learn a bit about the history of South Korea.
Spring is a season of fresh starts and new beginnings, and Seoul has you covered with its beautiful and abundant walking courses! After hiding away all winter, you deserve to celebrate spring and breathe in the fresh air while humming along to some great tunes and basking under the warm sun!
