As part of a way to encourage cultural exchange between Cuba and Korea, two events will be taking place: 『Nuevo Cuban Jazz Concert』 and the 『Cuban Modern Film Festival』. What’s special about this year is that the Cuban and Korean government cooperated Together to make the festival happen. Alfredo Ruiz, the director of international relations at the Cuban Ministry of Culture will even be be visiting Korea for the first time.

『Nuevo Cuban Jazz Concert』
Date: June 25-27
Location: Ewha University, Samsung Hall

 This concert will give us the best of modern Cuban jazz and dance. One of the leading Cuban jazz duos, Alfertico Lescay & Formas, takes the rhythm and melody of modern jazz And combines it with traditional Cuban folk music. This fusion gives you the feeling of being in a dream and is also a nice harmony of traditional and modern.
Due to her great interest in Latin American culture, Mina Sohn, a former KBS announcer who has now successfully transitioned into travel writing, will MC the opening night of the concert at 8 pm on the 26th.
Also, for the first time in Korea, the 『Cuban Modern Film Festival』 will be taking place from June 27-July 5 at the Korea Film Archive. The film festival will feature 9 modern movies (with one animated short) that were created after 2011. For anyone that’s a movie buff, this is a great way to see a new dimension of Cuban movies.
As an extra event, there will be a chance to discuss the future of the Korean and Cuban movie Industry at the “Korean-Cuban Movie Seminar.” A well-known movie critic from Cuba will lead the discussion. Ernesto Daranas, the director of “Conducta,” a well-received movie in the film world, will also be present and the audience will have a time to ask questions and talk with the director.
