The ASSITEJ International Summer Festival is Korea's largest performing arts festival for children and youth, showcasing outstanding domestic and international productions. Launched in 1993 as the “Seoul Children's Theatre Festival,” it invited exceptional international children's plays starting in 1995, transforming into an international performing arts festival. It evolved into the “Seoul International Children's Performing Arts Festival”' in 1997 and the “Seoul Children and Youth Performing Arts Festival” in 2001. Following the 17th 'ASSITEJ Summer Festival' in 2009, the “ASSITEJ International Summer Festival” was renamed in 2013, expanding its international participation and solidifying its status as a global festival for children and youth. Over the past 25 years, the festival has attracted a total audience of 300,000, featuring a variety of genres such as dance theatre, music theatre, and object theatre, as well as workshops and exhibitions. From 2014 to 2017, the festival received an A grade in the Korea Arts Management Service’s Performing Arts Event Support Project evaluation for four consecutive years. In 2018, it was awarded an S grade in the regional representative performing arts festival evaluation, establishing its reputation as Korea's leading performing arts festival.
