Director Kim Sung-yong's latest work, "Init," is the first piece of the DMAU (Dance Makes Asia become the Universe) project, planned by the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company based on the aspiration to expand the exchange of Asian dance and lead the world of contemporary dance.
Based on the paradoxical keywords of "complexity within simplicity," "depth within repetition," and "coexistence of unconsciousness and consciousness," “Init” unfolds intricate traces focusing on the unique history of the dancer's body and the essence of dance, together with the top dancers in Asia.
Developed from choreographer Kim Sung-yong's methodology, "Process InIt," aims to evolve, removing barriers between choreographer and dancer, as well as between dancer and audience. Stage design, geared towards highlighting the individualistic movements of the dancers, is crafted in collaboration with Yoo Jae-heon (YouJam Studio), with whom the choreographer has shared a long-standing creative partnership. Meanwhile, musician Yoo Ji-wan of the band “Alligators” joins as the music director to present a more innovative stage.
