Feel the autumn mood with K-musicals, from this fall’s hottest musical at Daehak-ro (the Broadway of Korea), to the creative musical by celebrity soldiers who are currently active in their military duties.

K-Musical Tour

Daehak-ro, Korea’s Broadway, is where musicals, plays, and performances unfold daily at over 150 different performance centers. At Daehak-ro, a sacred place for culture and the arts, visitors are offered the special experience of watching a popular musical and learning how to dance with musical actors. This is the K-Musical Tour for foreign tourists! The tour is comprised of three programs: introduction of Daehak-ro, musical viewing, and a musical dance lesson. The Daehak-ro introduction and dance lesson is conducted in English, and the musical will feature subtitles in English, Chinese, and Japanese. Any foreign tourist visiting Seoul can sign up for this tour, but participants will be chosen by raffle in the case that more than 20 people sign up.

National Museum of Korea
Theater Yong

The National Museum of Korea is Korea’s largest national museum while being the perfect place to meet glorious articles from the past. At Theater “Yong” on the second floor of the museum is the musical “Sejong, 1446” that will be held from October 3 to December 1. “Sejong, 1446” is a dramatic telling of the story of “King Sejong the Great,” the greatest and wisest king in Korean history, up until his creation of the “Hunminjeongeum Manuscript.” The musical boasts a creative production and stage setwith 37 actors/actresses, 300 costumes, an orchestra, and powerful choreography. After enjoying the musical, one can take a leisurely walk along the trail around the big lake by the museum or bask in the lingering emotions from the performance while looking out on the spacious grass field at the nearby Yongsan Family Park.

Charlotte Theater

Celebrating its 40th anniversary on Broadway, the legendary, world-renowned “Sweeney Todd” musical will be on stage from October 2, 2019 to January 7, 2020 at the Charlotte Theater, featuring casting by Cho Seung-woo and Ock Joo-hyun. “Sweeney Todd” takes place in 19th century England where a barber named Benjamin Barker, who was falsely imprisoned by Judge Turpin, returns 15 years later as Sweeney Todd and gets revenge. Charlotte Theater is a musical-exclusive theater located near Lotte World Adventure, Seoul Sky, Seokchon Lake, and a large shopping mall. Visitors can plan their trip by making plans at nearby attractions before and after the performance for a fun-filled time.

Olympic Park

The creative military musical, “The promise of the day” is the talk of the town with appearances by idols who are currently serving in the military like SHINee’s Onew, EXO’s Xiumin, and Infinite’s Sungkyu and Sungyeol. The musical tells the story of discovering the remains of soldiers who fought for their fatherland during the Korean War. The musical will be held from October 22 to December 1 in Olympic Park. Olympic Park, home to the theater “Woori Art Hall,” is familiar to Hallyu fans as the heart of performance centers where artists’ concerts and events are held weekly at the KSPO DOME, SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium, and The K Art Hall. The area is adored by Seoul residents as a cultural and arts space, as well as a resting place boasting the Seoul Museum of Art, the filming location of Her Private Life; Olympic Sculpture Park, one of the world’s five largest sculpture parks; and a pleasant walking trail. Be sure to take your time touring the area, as there is a lot to see. We highly recommend stopping bythe “Alone Tree.” This tree is known as the “Alone Tree” because it stands alone in a wide field, and it is Olympic Park’s noted attraction and spotlighted photo zone.
