Everything that sparkled in the beginning of love gradually loses its light as you fall out of love. It’s not always happy when love is always just growing bigger. Yumi’s cells mature with Yumi, crying and laughing with her in the change of love.
Gyeongju Bistro is a restaurant with a cozy hanok-style (traditional Korean-style house) located in between the small alleys in Sangsu-dong behind the busy streets of Hongdae. This is where Yumi and Woong ate while hiding their feeling of preparing for a breakup in their own way. This place appeared as an uncomfortable dining place in the TV series, but in reality, Gyeongju Bistro gives off a warm feeling with the wooden-style interior design utilizing the rafters. The view of the small but cozy yard and red walls outside the window creates a friendly atmosphere.
Gyeongju Bistro’s menu includes a meat platter with pork neck, pork belly and beef, a pork neck table d’hôte with rice cooked with curry powder, doenjang-guk (soybean paste soup), and neat side dishes, a soup style pork neck curry dish, and a fresh salad pasta. Since all the meat is served grilled, you can enjoy your meal neatly free from smells and the hassle of grilling the meat.
Gyeongju Bistro is already well known to drama fans as it was featured in many shows such as in BLACKPINK’s documentary “Light Up the Sky,” drama series “Nevertheless (I Know But)” and “Hospital Playlist (Wise Doctor Life).” It is a 5-mintue walk from Sangju Station on subway line #6, so it is better to use public transportation. How about taking a step back from Hongdae’s glamour and have a hearty meal with a special someone at Gyeongju Bistro, maintaining its own vibe?

Yeonnamjang, where you let go of your past love
“Business Proposal” is a story about a girl finding real love after going on a blind date in place of a friend. Although the relationship began with a lie, the main characters actually fall in love as time goes by. In this typical romantic drama, there’s one cool place that catches our attention. It’s Yeonnamjang, which is shown in the drama as the restaurant owned by Minwoo, a friend of Hari whom she had a crush on for 7 years.
There’s a red brick building with a retro vibe between Yeonnam-dong and Yeonhui-dong. Once you go past the sign that simply reads “Yeonnamjang,” you’ll see a space inside that looks completely different from the way it looks from the outside. The entrance with a large arch that leads you to a café and a restaurant, the floor tiles that catch your attention, and the large, wide window that spans across two floors, and the elegant chandelier all make you feel as if you are at a hotel lounge.
Yeonnamjang used to be a glass factory for 40 years, but the space was remodeled and reborn as a local creative lounge as we know today. The basement of Yeonnamjang boasts a large space that is quite rare in the neighborhood, and it is used as a space to hold exhibitions and events. The first floor has a café and a restaurant, and the 2nd floor is used as a co-working space for local creators, and the 3rd floor is a separate studio where people can work and even live.
Yeonnamjang operates separate counters for a café and a restaurant, so you need to order separately as well. Please note that there’s a break hour for the restaurant. At the café, you can get coffee, ade drinks, tea, wine, and beer. At the restaurant, you can get brunch and western meals. There is a parking space and you are welcome to come with your pet as well.
Yeonnamjang is more than just a place to have a meal and drink tea. It seeks to become the space that fosters both cultural creation and development in the local community as a place for meet-ups and also the space where creators get inspirations. To make this happen, Yeonnamjang hosts various exhibitions, events, and concerts. You can check the relevant information on Instagram. So let’s check it out before visiting Yeonnamjang to fully enjoy what this special place has to offer.
