The definition of plan goes, “to think about and decide what you are going to do or how you are going to do something” as searched in the dictionary. It is what it looks like. Travel is deciding what one will do in the future. Let’s try putting that together with the word “travel”. It would be deciding what one will do while traveling. We usually plan ahead of traveling. We plan our routes according to the places we want to go and the activities we want to do.
Lee Chang Hyun, CEO of Globaleur, said he thought a little differently of this. “Travel is something you experience at your destination. No matter how perfect your plan, there are contingencies,” he said. “We have plans on our mind before we leave for travel and even during it. However, most travel planning services only focus on providing information and situation notices before traveling,” explained CEO Lee Chang Hyun of the background behind his startup.
This is why CEO Lee Chang Hyun’s Globaleur provides plans both prior to and during travel. Preparation prior to travel looks similar to that of other services. It recommends travel routes and activities according to the customer’s tastes. It also provides scheduling services according to each route that they set. The plans during travel are provided according to the most adequate route at the current situation by capturing the status of the pre-planned travel in real-time. For instance, Gyeongbokgung is difficult to tour in rain. If a user has Gyeongbokgung on their next schedule, Globaleur lets them know that it is difficult to tour in case of rain, and suggests substitute plans such as Insa-dong or Pyeongchang-dong which are also good to visit nearby.
Since the plan changes are in real-time, Globaleur also provides one-stop solutions. It picks up the issues that occur during travel from user tastes and location solutions, then provides travel information, flight tickets, accommodation, tours, and restaurant reservations according to the situation, all at once. Recently, Globaleur is collaborating with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance to provide travel insurance on its platform to help provide even more convenient trip planning.
Globaleur was established in 2017, with headquarters in Santa Clara, California. It has provided its services mostly to customers visiting overseas cities. With growing interest in Korea, Globaleur wished to assist and has initiated its recent collaboration with Seoul Tourism Organization to make Seoul, a must-visit for tourists, easier to enjoy. “Seoul is a huge city of scale difficult to find, even overseas. Tourists who are not familiar with Korea may face many unexpected obstacles,” CEO Lee Chang Hyun noted. “With our knowledge built through overseas businesses and linguistic background, we will help tourists enjoy Korea, as intended or otherwise.”
