Kiaf Seoul: Expanding the World of Travel through Art
Recently, Seoul hosted Korea's leading global art fair, Kiaf Seoul 2024. Having begun in 2002, Kiaf Seoul is Korea's first international art fair, boasting over two decades of history. This year, from September 4 to 8, Kiaf Seoul 2024 garnered significant attention as it featured the most extensive collaboration between Kiaf Seoul and Frieze, one of the world's top three art fairs from the UK. With around 300 galleries participating and a host of prominent figures from the global art scene in attendance, the event unfolded like a festival, filled with diverse exhibitions and activities.
01 Artside Gallery : Dreaming of a Broader Expansion of Visual Arts
Situated next to Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seochon is the Artside Gallery.By embracing fine art and a diverse range of genres, this gallery is instrumental in forging new paths in the Korean art scene, expanding the traditional confines of gallery spaces into a more expansive artistic realm.
Running until September 28, Artside Gallery will present two compelling exhibitions: the second solo exhibition in Korea by Spanish painter, Guim Tio, titled, Este Sol de la Infancia, and Focus on Beauty, a solo exhibition by Korean artist, Jung Myoungjo, celebrated for his hyper-realistic techniques. Both exhibitions will showcase works depicting the backs of figures. Guim Tio’s tiny human forms are set against vast landscapes with Jung Myoungjo’s exquisitely adorned women dressed in traditional Korean attire.

Established in 2020 by two young directors who honed their skills in the UK and US art markets, Gallery THEO debuted at Kiaf Seoul this year. The gallery is committed to providing a space that supports dynamic artistic exploration grounded in challenging projects that adapt to an ever-evolving art environment.
Operating until September 20, visitors can experience this ethos firsthand through the solo exhibition, 44, by artist Park Grim. Known for exploring contemporary narratives through the lens of traditional Korean painting techniques, Park aims to break down dichotomous boundaries in this exhibition by infusing dual meanings into single artworks.
