Inspired by Kim Hong-do’s painting Moonlit Night Boating, this performance presents a reinterpretation of traditional Korean sentiments where water, people, music, and space harmonize through a contemporary lens. The Seoul Metropolitan Traditional Orchestra held a nationwide competition for new compositions themed around the Han River. In Part 1 of the performance, five selected works by emerging composers will premiere. Part 2 features celebrated Korean traditional orchestral pieces, including The Song of Crossing the River by Kim Seong-guk and Breath of Hangaram by Im Hee-seon. This program, noted for its sensitive and creative blend of tradition and modernity, space and emotion, presents a meaningful stage that introduces a new wave in the Korean traditional orchestra scene.
